What is beautiful? If a single flower was held up in a room to a hundred different scholars, each would arguably state the cases for it’s beauty, or otherwise. They might remark on the slender stem, or the tendrils of leaves. The petals hold the color best- like a smile lighting up a room. The flower is delicate, and lovely with rich colors and petals, but the very outside was created to house the pollen inside- safe, yet able to be picked up by the wind and spread for the flower’s survival. The beauty, simply a house is the one that seems to always garner the most praise.
There are a million petals out there; flimsy and garish, lightweight and eye-catching. When the petals fall, what remains? The strength of the flower is not in it’s petals, or beauty- but in it’s purpose.
Apply this principal to your job search: A catching outside will fall away unless there is something inside to spread, (and pollinate the minds of those hiring you.) Without the passion to spread your message, achieve your goals; you will become an unnecessary object in your own life. Don’t lose the interview because you forget that what really matters is the backbone of who you are: Your knowledge, strengths, weaknesses and opportunities.
When we find passion, and we find the desire to live our lives fully: We pollinate those around us and inspire others to work and live in the way we do best: Fully engaged and ready for our next opportunity. Petals are beautiful for a few days, but then collapse on the table, or into the grass. The pollen spreads outwards, (though not noticed when covered with a silky exterior,) and in the germinating of the world: It’s purpose is found.
Here’s to a 2010 where we do not settle, nor believe we were only meant for beauty and not braun. Our passion guides us forward.
