It’s a strange moment, when memories from childhood mix with the poignant reality of life.
I had a friend when I was younger who lived four houses down, and I often played at her home. She had obnoxious older brothers, and being a girl without any living older brothers, I often was mesmerized by their pure and utter boy-ness. They burped louder, laughed louder, and subsequently talked about all of those actions more than anyone I had met. I hadn’t thought of them in years- the whole family…
I went over to mom and dads to drop Ava off for a much needed few days of cleaning, rest, and a friend’s wedding. My mom told me I had to see something. When she does this, and turns on the television, it’s two things.
1.) A program my daughter is obsessed with.
2.) Some humorous commercial her and my dad can’t stop talking about.
3.) Something so incredibly sad that I will be in a funk for days.
It was the third one, and so it goes.
You’ll need to sit down, (if you aren’t already.) Find a quiet place in the house and be prepared to cry.
